Pets

Follow these instructions if you are using a digital camera or a 35mm.

A digital image could be as little as 700KB to 1MB if it is taken as close as one  can get to the pet. A more distant shot should be over 2MB. If this is confusing, take a look at the visual samples below.

  • Take your picture in the shade
  • Take it as close to the pet as possible
  • Take care to avoid sunny shadows falling over your pet. Do not take the picture in direct sun.
  • Afternoons or early mornings are best as the light is soft, make sure the sun is behind you (or to the side) and not making your pet squint.
  • Do not use a flash, it tends to white out the image. Taking your picture inside can be OK if you have enough natural light and as long as the flash is not used.

You can send one perfect picture with the composition the way you like it or send as many pictures as you want.  I like very close shots of the pets face, so I can see eye color in addition to your favorite pose.

This photo was taken indoors without a flash. I chose to render this loosely starting with Water color pencils, watercolor background. I continued building the image using watercolor pencils, colored pencils, soft carbothello pastel pencils and finished it off with Schmincke pastels.

The parents of this gorgeous girl requested having one of her front teeth
shortened a little.

Homes and Structures

When the sun creates shadows on a home, it can be nice.  Shadows falling on driveways, streets and grass add a nice touch to your structure.  (see samples below).  Take a day to observe how shadows fall on your house. Take pictures at different times of the day if you want.  One picture of the whole composition is necessary, other closer pictures can be useful for zooming in to get a look at that front door (what color is it really?). The more information I have, the more detail I can add.   If your flowers and tree's are not in bloom, let me know what they are, color etc... and that can be added.

Customer for the portrait of this cabin wanted a splash of color with some wildflowers and also requested St.Francis be added.
